Texas Bluebonnet Award History
Every year, librarians across the state of Texas nominate books for consideration for the Texas Bluebonnet Award list. The books nominated must be no older than 3 years old and published by a living U.S. citizen. The Texas Bluebonnet Award selection committee reviews all of the nominated books and chooses 20 books to be on the Master List for the year. The Master List is announced at the Texas Book Festival in Austin each year.
Then, the fun begins! Students around the state of Texas read the selected books, and in January, students that have read, or listened to, at least 5 of the books participate in voting for the winner of the current year's Texas Bluebonnet Award. The winner of the Bluebonnet Award is announced in early February and is celebrated each year at the Texas Library Association's conference.
